These are just some of the adjectives that fans have used to try and describe the unique sound of Blu Soul, the LA based band that fuses, Rock, Funk, Soul, and R&B with East Indian overtones into its music.
Ever since it’s incarnation, the members of Blu Soul knew that they had something special. Formed in 2004, the band includes the “hypnotic and sultry vocals,” of Shalini Rehil, the “bass thumping bottom feeder,” Greg Gonzales, the “heavy hitting,” Lee Jossel on Drums and Percussion and the "innovative guitar wizardry," of Song of the Year Finalist Steve Allen.
Blu soul’s sound has been compared to everything from Living Colour to U2, from Sade to Led Zeppelin, and even modern contemporaries like Audioslave and Maroon 5.
“There’s no one-way to describe our sound,” Lead guitarist Steve Allen comments. “We all bring a great deal of diversity to the band.” “Whether it’s our cultural backgrounds or our musical tastes, all of our life experiences have helped to shape our sound and identity.”
Recently, Blu soul has been tearing up the LA music scene with songs from their self titled debut EP that includes the jazzy influenced track Believer, crowd favorite Pretend, get off your ass driven lyrics of Dance With Me, emotionally charged Hero, exotic Interlude, and funky What Love Is.
Blu Soul continues to evolve and shape its sound into something new and fresh every day. “We want to bring back the exciting and ground breaking music that used to flourish in LA,” Says Steve. “We want to change the face of this ‘pay-to-play’ stagnant industry that has taken place in our own backyard.” “I think our philosophy is best described by the following quote:
"Haven't you always said to yourself-there is something great I am destined to do? My life will be different from the lives of others. I am not content to sit and watch the world pass by. I want to shape it, control it, mold it!"
