Why this name?
The name of the band comes from the 1930s movie Dark Victory starring Bette Davis. Also as a term dark victory means that you win...but with a cost.
Do you play live?
Dark Victory™ has not played live as of yet. We live in Pittsburgh and St Louis so we're spread out. But it is possible for us to play live and when the opportunity presents itself, we are going to take it.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Well, it has helped tremendously in enabling us to keep in contact over the years, as well as exchange files for songs we are collaborating on. It also opens up the entire world as potential listeners.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
We would if they were speaking our language. We are very specific with what we are trying to do. Our image is important to us. We always want to give back and help those less fortunate than we.
Band History:
Scott met Mark when he was working for the county's library system when he got out of college. A year or two later, he mentioned that he had written some songs with another friend, Kevin, and asked for help recording them. The three of them got together in Scott's bedroom, with an organ & two synthesizers playing through a small guitar amp, and recorded two songs on Mark's boombox, Birthday Blue (I Cried For You) and Working For The New Police State. They later moved to the basement, and wrote & recorded a bunch of other material.

Over the years, they managed to stay in contact (& keep writing songs), and have found that the internet is a great tool for enabling them to collaborate without regard to the distance between them. They finished a four-song EP, Vale Of Tears, in January of 2004; the songs currently on this site are those four, plus a few others that have been recorded recently. The old songs will eventually be re-recorded, but currently in the works is a full-length cd of mostly newer compositions.
Your influences?
All of us have a LOT of divergent influences in rock, pop, r&b, jazz fusion, prog, reggae, folk and blues. Too many to mention here.
Favorite spot?
For Kevin, it's the San Francisco Bay Area. For Scott it's his hometown Rochester PA which is in the Pittsburgh area. Mark likes Thailand which is the birthplace of his lovely wife.
Equipment used:
That's a rather personal question....
