Yo, I'm John Suave, aka Johnny Suave & J. Suave. I'm an emcee/producer from Thunder Bay, ON. My brother Dystrakted does all my cuts and records me most of the time.
Influenced by the local scene, I started writing in Oct. 2002. I figured: "if these people can do it, why can't I?". I wrote in solitude until I had something I was relatively proud of which was recorded as a demo track that will likely never see the light of day, and after that I was addicted. I began spending alot of my free time scribbling in a notebook or sitting on the computer writing. Now I'm trying to expand my skillset as much as possible. I started freestyling and making beats in December 2004, and I'm trying to learn how to beat-box and do graffiti but those two are definitely not my forté. Hehehe....

Why this name?
Well, this is kind of a ridiculous story that nobody would care about, and I probably wouldn't tell otherwise, but ask and you shall recieve. I was about to play Red Faction (for PC) online for the first time, and I was browsing through the character models trying to come up with a name. The character I decided to use was on some James Bond type ish, wearing a tux and whatnot. The first thing I thought when I saw him was "man, this guy's like Johnny Suave or something" and that was my gaming name from then on. Since then, the name has only rung more true, so when it came time to pick my emcee name, I figured "What the hell?" and just ran with it. Damn, I'm a nerd.
Do you play live?
Yep. So far I've only performed in Thunder Bay. Being on stage is always a challenge for me because I strive to sound as similar to the recorded version as possible. As for special moments, I freestyled with J-Roc from the Trailer Park Boys. It's just a shame nobody else from the show was there.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's a godsend.
I mean, would you be about to listen to my music if we didn't have the internet and mp3s? The answer to that one is a resounding no. At the same time, it's bringing down corporate ish, and I'm always about stickin' it to the man.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Hip Hop is in my blood, and money ain't sh*** /
Gimme a million dollar contract, and I'll tell you to suck my dick /

Favorite spot?
My bed.
Equipment used:
For recording I use other people's equipment right now.... I'm working on my setup though. Beat-making-wise, I use Adobe Audition to chop stuff up, FL Studio 6 to put it back together again and to record my Korg PadKontrol MIDI controller. I need some real software.... haha.
Anything else...?
Yep... mainstream's ova.
