I generally do not pay much attention to the biographies of artists; what matters, after all, is their body of work, no?

That said, I think it’s fair to say that my songs, while perhaps not autobiographical per se, are largely influenced by specific life-events I have been through.

(Note: I really try to make each song its own sub-genre, so that while it’s clear the song is a “Matt Sherwood” song, it is really quite unlike any of the others in the oeuvre.)

“sleeping on your couch”? Yes, there was a period when I was something of a “serial parasite”.

“group therapy”? While I was never bought my way out of “hard time” via soft soul-searching, I spent many an hour in the kind of 50-minute sessions which this song lovingly describes, and indeed, I knew a few people who had made such direct deals with their local law enforcement bureaucracies.

“i need it bad”? This is my ballad for the Everyman, of which I am one of three billion. Really, only on the surface it’s about sex, or lack thereof. Viewed correctly, it’s about nothing less than Salvation Itself.

“she got the house”? All too true.

“(she was just a) facebook friend”? Don’t ask Please.
