Story behind the song
I decided to write this song 3 hours before heading out to play music at the League of Women Voters "Dangerous Women of California" event celebrating the 100th anniversary of women's right to vote in California! It was extremely well received and many attendees requested a recording.
Lyrics
Some kill you with a smile like the Mona Lisa With kindness like Mother Teresa Or even with an axe like Lizzie Borden You just got to love those dangerous women Plenty of chicks have been in the military From Joan of Arc to General Ann Dunwoody Marie Curie knew all about science And Agatha Christie was the queen of suspense Here’s to the girl who won’t behave Won’t play it safe or be a slave Won’t be forgotten by history Who’s out there telling her own story Careful and cautious leaves me cold Give me audacious, brave and bold There’s nothing wrong with the quiet type but as for me… I love a woman who lives dangerously! Oh, those dangerous women could fly a plane and drive a boat Let’s not forget Carrie Chapman Catt and the suffragettes fighting for the right to vote They knew that equality is good for all humanity For parents, brothers and sisters And for their children and granddaughters! … and now Everywhere you look, girls are changing the landscape Like real-life tornadoes and earthquakes They keep the law busy issuing warrants From Schenectady to Lafayette, Green River to Torrance Here’s to the girl who won’t behave, etc.
