This first attempt to write a song was before attending the singing school at ACU. I had sung in several small groups in the past, and had been to the Foundation School of Music in the 1980's, but I had never seriously tried to write music before. I attempted to take the thoughts to one of the Psalms, Psalm 18, and put it to music. We sang this in Sunday morning worship during one of my sermons on the Psalms. At the time, I didn't know anything about music notation software, so the original of this song was handwritten. A year later, I transcribed into music notation software and this printed song is the result.
Lord we love you, you're our strength
and you're our rock Lord, and your worthy too
You're our fortress, our deliv'rer
and our shelter, now we call to you!
Chorus:
And we thank you and we praise you
'mong the nations praise your name!
We exalt you and we worship
and you're faithfully the same
O Lord our God!
Then the cords they have surrounded
and the torrent all around me too
They have bound me and ensnare me
looking heavnward now I cry to you
From the sky Lord hear our voices
shake the Heavens and the mountains too
Part the clouds Lord and come down God
For we wait Lord reaching out to you
You will answer you will rescue
like you said Lord, you'll deliver too
You will strengthen make us able
for the task Lord we will do for you
