He was nick named The Exception when he was in middle school. He played basketball his entire life until deciding not to play at the college level. He got his name from one of his black all-star teammates in sixth grade who said that ‘white boys can’t jump, but you’re the exception.’ So the name stuck and was perfect for his move into music. He’s not a typical hip hop artist either. He grew up lov...ing all kinds of music. In 8th grade he became aware of two guys outside the school who were freestyle battling each other, so he participated and fell in love with the attitude and creativity involved in hip hop lyricism. In his sophomore year he made his first mixtape, which was far from successful. After being criticized, ridiculed, threatened, and booed off stage at his own high school talent show, The Exception began his amazing journey of perseverance and determination. In 2006 The Exception and M. Carter began working on creating music together as juniors in high school. After performing several live shows and recording multiple songs that became popular on the internet, they have progressively developed into successful underground artist with thousands of fans worldwide. They held the #5 unsigned artist in the nation spot on the myspace music charts for some time. The Exception’s single “Crazy” featuring Gyfted was also licensed to the arcade video game “Pump It Up NX” in 2008. In 2009, The Exception’s single “In The O”, a Buckeye anthem, received commercial radio play across Ohio and was played at the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl between Ohio State and Texas. The album “No Excuses” released in November, 2010, is available digitally at most iStores including but not limited to iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Rhapsody and so on.The Exception and M.Carter were voted by fans to perform at Lake Havasu City Spring Break 2011 with Asher Roth, beating out several other contestants for the gig.
