When a buzz brews, someone's got to stir the pot, and a buzz has been brewing about Southern California native TheWerd. LifeonWax.com states "This cat Werd is dope. Even my girl likes this track. Not to be ignored!" and "Hip-Hop has a new hero in Werd". Says Juniorscave.com. Myspace is ablaze and Label runners have been known to claim to be "incredibly smitten" with Werd but the proof is in the music itself.
It's hard to try to place his music into a specific genre most usually classified as Mainstream/Retro/Futuristic/Dance/or Narrative. Interested in music his whole life, he got his start as Administration on one of the biggest hip-hop forums/sites ever Rapforums.com, where he established his name and made a lot of long lasting connections. His aim is to become a Multi-generational artist, referring to his consistency through time and an effortless movement between time periods for the music.
Known on his tracks to inject a humorous dose of self-reflection...both of which, and most certainly a combination of, that have been sorely missing as an integral parts of what has made Hip-hop the art form that it is today. This same reality in which Werd currently lives as a self proclaimed "regular dude," splitting his time between studying Record Engineering and working as a Computer Tech at a local Electronics Store. Utilizing the skills learned from both TheWerd has created a unique blend of progressive futuristic sounds and retro style, often considered a mix of Little Brother, The Cool Kids, and Pharell.
TheWerd has been influenced by many artists including Prince, John Legend, Will.I.Am, Murs, Justin Timberlake and the 80's. Most recently he's embarked on a futuristic trip to the outer limits of hip-hop equipped with live performances and the catchphrase "Words were spoken, Werd was chosen" The key to understanding TheWerd is to Inhale with your ears, and Exhale with your soul.
