Story behind the song
A quirky, acoustic driven, organic pop song, inspired by the story of 'the prodigal son' in Luke 15: 11-32 in The Bible. I wrote this song about reaching a point where I realised, that without Jesus in my life it was a mess. The only way to 'fix it', was to 'Play by the Rules'. To start using 'The Manual', 'The Instruction Book of Life', "The Bible". I suppose you could say I'm singing this song to Jesus, and asking for His forgiveness and guidance. "Experience is the PRODUCT of age, but WISDOM is The FRUIT of THE SPIRIT".
Lyrics
I think it's time for me to make my way home Could you ever forgive me? Burnt my bridges and I'm standing alone What would you say? I could lie and make a dozen excuses But tell me what would it solve? Sick and tired of feeling hungry and useless I was too involved I've been staring at a 'Pearl in a field' But I'm not understanding A wiser man than me would sell everything that he owns How many times do you suffer the fool? I'm lucky you're so patient At last the prodigal is learning to play by The Rules So if you find that you're in need of repentance You know it's not too late And in your mind you see a prison sentence Well don't hesitate It always seemed that life was never easy And the talk was cheap well I was heading in the wrong direction I was in too deep I've been staring at a 'Pearl in a field' But I'm not understanding A wiser man than me would sell everything that he owns How many times do you suffer the fool? I'm lucky you're so patient At last the prodigal is learning to play by The Rules I'm learning to play Learning to play Learning to play Learning to Play by The Rules
