Inspire the Journey Thank you for visiting my new SoundClick website. I am a Christian Singer/Songwriter and I'm putting together some songs that I hope will inspire you as you journey in your relationship with God. At present, this web site is still pretty new. As the content increases I plan to provide you with music that I've written as I have traveled though some dark times as well as the bright moments in my life, in an effort to help anyone else who needs spiritual healing or guidance. You can contact me at sam.sanchez@samsanchezmusic.com. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21 (New International Version)
Band/artist history
Born in Houston, Texas, Sam Sanchez III got started in music at an early age. His mom says he was singing before he could talk. By nine he was teaching himself how to play guitar and he started a neighborhood band called Distortion. Sam remembers, "We couldn?t really play any of the songs on the radio, so we just started writing songs that we could play. We'd plug in to the lamp post in the front yard and play three chords over and over again for hours. I thank God, my dad came out one time and yelled, "Learn a new song!" or I might still be playing those three chords" When Sam was 12, he joined the Jr. High choir and the drama team, and to his surprise, he started winning awards in singing and acting right away. "I wasn't doing it to win contests", says Sam, "I did it because I loved to perform and people kept letting me get on stage. It's a wonderful feeling to find that people think you are good at something you love to do." He also kept writing songs and playing in the band Distortion. In High School, Sam started gaining some momentum. He made the Texas All State Choir three years in a row. He performed lead rolls in many plays and musicals including Curly in "Oklahoma" and Capt. Von Trapp in "The Sound of Music." He played guitar in the school Jazz Band and still rocked out the school talent shows with Distortion. "It was a little strange," he says, "I could sing, dance, and play in front of thousands of people and I really never got stage fright. But I was so shy that if you were to ask me to stand up in front of eight people to just talk and be myself, I'd freeze up like a Chihuahua on the North Pole. I probably looked like one too." All of Sam's accomplishments in high school got the interest of many universities and colleges. Eventually he decided to study opera and music education at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. "I wanted to stretch my vocal abilities and learn how take care of my voice. Opera is the most disciplined, demanding, and athletic singing there is. The knowledge, training and conditioning I received during those five years of singing opera, still help me today." You may notice there is no mention of church, religion, or worship of any kind so far in his story. That's because Sam had never really gone to church during the first 18 years of his life. "My mom was Pentecostal and my dad was Catholic. They decided to let my brother and me decide for ourselves what we believed and what we would do about it." One of Sam's professors was also the choir director at the First United Methodist Church of Nacogdoches, TX. Dr. Ron Anderson invited Sam to come sing in the church choir, and he went. "It was my first exposure to the Word of God and I just kept taking it in. It seemed that every time I learned something, I'd ask the Pastor three more questions." After a while, he started directing the youth choir, and soon after that he got a job as the church custodian. It was at this church where Sam professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was saved. After college Sam moved to Chicago to be the rock star he always dreamed he would be. He played in various bands and eventually became the lead singer in a hard rock band called Zircon. "The music was athletic with a positive message." Zircon built up a small following around the Chicago land area but never really got far. "We were a really good 80's band playing in the mid 90's.? We might have had a chance but grunge music made musicianship seem like you were working too hard. Once Zircon broke up Sam was already singing in a show band called Classified where Sam was one of four singers who danced sharp choreography while singing tight harmonies. While playing at one show Sam met the love of his earthly existence and the girl he would later marry, Jackie. Classified became one of the top club bands in the Chicago area but eventually broke up due to internal disagreements. Sam then formed another show band called Chameleon. Chameleon played in a number of festivals around the Chicagoland area and even sang the National Anthem at new Comiskey Park for the Chicago White Sox. Sam also sang the National Anthem at Soldier Field for the Chicago Fire. Eventually, Chameleon became the Chameleon Orchestra which focused more on the special event and wedding entertainment industry. After his partner left to sing in Las Vegas, Chameleon stopped performing. He then formed the Monarch Orchestra with another partner but he left because of philosophical differences. He then started singing with the High Society Orchestra which is one of the premier special event orchestras in the Chicagoland area. Through out this time Sam would still perform at the different churches he attended. He sang at Willow Creek and at the First United Methodist Church of Lombard. He moved to the town of Oswego, IL and started going to the Church of the Good Shepard Methodist Church where he was immediately approached to start a praise and worship group that became Exalt. The church eventually changed one of the services to a contemporary service which features Exalt. While singing with Exalt Sam started writing music again. But for the first time he was writing Christian music. "I found myself more and more inspired to write music that was more spiritually motivating. I write songs that help me to find my own way to walk and talk with the Lord." It appears that others find his music comforting and spiritually motivating. In 2005 he wrote and released a CD single of "Lead Me Through This Storm" and he is currently in the studio working on some new material. In 2007 Sam moved with his wife Jackie and his son Sam W. to Geneva, IL. He still travels to The Church of the Good Shepard Methodist Church in Oswego, IL each Sunday to sing with Exalt and sings most weekends with the High Society Orchestra. He is also writing more Christian music and is pursuing opportunities in the Christian music industry.
