Story behind the song
My wife Terri Peterson sent me a link to Ada Powers' brilliant tweet about Totwaffles. I edited into 3 verses and wrote some discoesque music . This is song number 8 in my Foodist Songs series. More to come!
Lyrics
Youre on lockdown, trying to do a lot with a little.
Its hard to find joy in the midst of fear, depression, and austerity.
Thats why its time to learn about totwaffles!
CHORUS (2x):
Totwaffle oo-ee oo-ee clap-clap-clap
Syrupchup Totfwaffle
1
Even in stores cleaned out of frozen everything,
Tots are still available.
You may be able to find them at your corner store.
Brand is not important;
Knockoff tots might work even better.
Pile frozen tots on a plate and stick them in a microwave.
How many minutes? Yes.
You want them to be soft, warm, a little wet,
Like most good things in this world that are not socks.
CHORUS
2
Youll need a waffle iron
And you are about to give your iron a higher purpose.
Line up your tots on the iron.
Tear them, make them fit small holes,
Jam them into place; it doesnt matter;
They are potatoes and they will do your bidding.
Squish down your waffle iron, probably voiding the warranty.
Warranties, like rent and office work, are but constructs
Which were never built to serve us.
CHORUS
3
Leave the tots to cook.
Your waffle iron may say its done;
Do not believe its lies.
Verify, by eye or finger, that it is crisp.
To make Syrupchup, combine maple syrup and ketchup in a 1 to 1 ratio.
Heat it on a stove, but dont let it boil and reduce; the Syrupchup must flow.
There are precisely two kinds of people in the world:
Those who see Syrupchup as an inevitability,
And those who witness it as an abomination.
CHORUS
