light hearted lyrical sarcasm and original music inspired by a lifetime of accompanying a boatload of excellent musicians.

Story behind the song
A college in a small town in rural America partners with a national chain to move it's bookstore from campus to down town, supposedly a town/gown partnerhsip made in heaven. With disappointing sales, the store decides to feature musicans to attract customers....with a catch.
Lyrics
We got the Nook they got the Kindle and the ipad and ereaders too Sellin’ big old books with pages is getting pretty hard to do With no cash comin in, the profits are gettin’ thin Let’s have a band come play for free at our store We got no plan to pay ‘em, but why the heck would they want more? We ain’t sellin’ in a barn but in the old days we used to be more noble Now tryin’ to make a sale is like grabbin’ hold of hell’s last snowball There was a time we would be payin’ but the red ink has us sayin Let’s have a band come and play for free at our store We got no plan to pay ‘em, but why the heck would they want more? (Chorus:) No tickee, no shirtee Even rock’n’rollers have to eat No tickee, no shirtee If you want 'em comin’ round you got to lay your money down Why’d they think that the fiddler shouldn’t get her due? No tickee, no shirtee. (instrumental break over verse) Well, the folks there in the store got put into an awkward situation With the sales down in the cellar, there is no cause for celebration They sure as heck wouldn’t work for free but it’s their policy: Let’s have a band come play for free at our store We got no plan to pay ‘em, but why the heck would they want more? (Repeat Chorus +Tag:) No tickee, no shirtee.
