This was one of the two songs that gave VSG the momemtum and push they needed for "Lifers". The other song was "Tropical Melon". Acoustic Escape was recorded 1 week before Lifers. Tropical Melon was recorded about 30 minutes before Lifers.
At the time Josh and Mike were having varied success with heavier songs. So, Mike wanted to play something more mellow and slow. Josh liked the idea, and they thought about some slower rhythms and chord progressions.
