Artist picture
I write all kinds of music from gospel to country, comedy to childrens songs as well as instrumentals. I play guitar (acoustic and lead) and sing with a count
I was born in the mid 1950's, and began playing guitar when I was 14 years old. I have played with many of the early (70's & 80's)country singers. I wrote my first song when I was 15 and now have over 120, from gospel to country. I love the challenge of writing a song that people can relate to, yet to say it in a brand new way. I play with a local group called Common Bond and jam whenever I can find some others pickers.

Story behind the song
As a kid I was raised in church, but when I was old enough to get out on my own, I started playing country music in night clubs and had really gone over the edge. The bible says there is pleasure in sin for a season, and I guess I had reached my end. I became so miserable that the music I was playing became a prison to me. This song tells how God shook me and showed me how he had been patiently waiting for me to make up my mind and come home to Him. I'm so thankful I was able to find my Old Friend.
Lyrics
Old Friend I had turned to this world for it's pleasure, Then my season finally reached it's end. Then I watched as I lost my earthly treasures, With noone left who I could call my friend. Then I recalled those days of my childhood, And remembered an old lost friend of mine. But I wondered if He'd ever thought about me, I'd been so long now since His name had crossed my mind. Chorus Then my heart cried out for that Old Friend of mine, How I longed just to talk with Him again. I'd been entangled in the things of this old world, Along the way I'd lost touch with my Old Friend. So at the foot of my bed I made an altar, As I knelt there my tears began to flow. It was there I found what I needed to help me, As I talked with that friend from long ago. Then He told me He still loved me and He'd been waiting, For this day when I'd talk with Him again. And He showed me how He'd kept His hand upon me, I'm glad He heard me when I called to my Old Friend. (c)1994
