Story behind the song
This song is about courage. There are references to the story of Adam and Eve. The only that keeps us from being courageous is selfishness and fear. The ending is not triumphant or comforting, because facing our fears and anxiety is usually (if only temporary) a terrifying experience.
Lyrics
Ever since Eden's fall
The snake continues to crawl
Inside our mind
Even now as I sleep
The snake's venom seeps
Raising the mirror inside
Bury me in your sand
'Cause I can no longer stand
Please let me sleep tonight
But if you want me to
Stay awake you
I will stay awake all night
Even in spiritual bliss
Selfishness
Takes a natural turn
But I know hunger well
And all the pain it entails
The snake is now a worm
Bury me in your sand
'Cause I can no longer stand
Please let me sleep tonight
But if you want me to
Stay awake you
I will stay awake all night
