Hi Folks, The Bard Insurgent here. My comrade D.O. (the Poet Roofer) and I got that handle (The Bard Insurgents) from traveling town to town performing songs and poetry about people's lives. I've been performing since I was 3 years old, cutting my vocal chords on liturgical and classical music. I was a concert soloist as a child, when I wasn't herding cows, throwing hay and shoveling manure. During the Civil Rights movement and the Vietnam war, I began writing songs about social change. I left the country in 1970 and my dozen years in other countries, mostly in Africa & South America, have provided a global perspective to my music. My travels helped me realize that people all around the world are essentially the same in their basic life needs and their desires to live peacefully in their communities. These experiences have informed my commitment to working for international understanding as I organize at home. A powerful way to educate and inspire is with music. I tell people's stories, do social commentary with a touch of satire that I hope you enjoy and share with your friends, as well as sing together in the streets and in your living rooms. I also have children's music written for the children in my life with Jacob and Kayla as primary muses. Looking forward to seeing you on the road, Tom

Story behind the song
Written as a response to hydro-fracking for (un) natural gas.
Lyrics
They want to fracture the land to get at the gas Billions in profits they can amass They got compulsory integration, that’s how they obtain Your land by stealin it through eminent domain Then break through that Marcellus shale with a hole in the ground. Then horizontal drill to get the gas next door & DEC’s a fracking conspirator Yes, the DEC it’s sad, but true is cheerleading for the drillin instead of for you. Our air & our water they just ignore with a hole in the ground. There’s a hole in the ground. Money is the sound & the arsenic & lead are in your wells & watershed. Well there’s nothing natural about this gas when you got 54 chemicals that have to pass Through the gas then turn into water waste to our air and tap water with an after taste Then head for your brain, liver, kidneys, & heart till your endocrine system falls apart From the hole in the ground. Money is the sound Radiation, salt & lead are in your wells & watershed. Well Chesapeake in Texas, Cabot in PA, Halliburton can put a rig in your yard today You can breathe the benzene & the water in your tap Can be a bunson burner you can light with a match. There’s a hole in the ground. There’s a hole in the ground. Fumes all around. Radiation, salt, and lead are in your wells and watershed. & the Susquehanna River is bubbling there with methane gas in the water where I swam & fished when I was a kid. They’re desecrating the land. We got to get rid of that Hole in the ground. Money is the sound Radiation, salt & lead are in your wells & watershed.
