A Wide Variety Including Rock Folk and Jazz
Just another hack trying to get discovered.
Story behind the song
This is a song Dana played to me a few years back and it stuck in my head. Upon the breakup of my marriage I modified the lyrics to reflect the emotions I was feeling at the time. The song still contains certain elements of Dana's first writing but my rendition is much more personalized. When I played it at open mike nights in Albion the small crowd seemed to enjoy it. I actually had one occasion where I played it to my ex and she was not too happy with it, which is strange because the version I played at the time was more reflective of my sadness than of the extreme bitterness that would come later. I changed the lyrics a year later to reflect my discontent but it changed the nature of the song from a lament about the end of a marriage, to a bitter commentary filled with hate. At the advice of a few people I changed them back. I still perform the song occasionaly but not with the raw emotion I did in the first year. I have attempted 3 times to capture a decent recording of it but still have never come up with one I truly like. This is one of the later versions.
Lyrics
We met one time on a solemn night
A dark but moonlit sky
You picked apart our married life
I sat and wondered why
Maybe it seems like never again will you be so lonely
Even if it's for this night only
Take a part of me with you when you go
Don't forget the memories
That we sowed
When you wander away today.
I hope that come tomorrow you'll see a different way
The days go by the months go on
The items still remain
Peices of the life we made
The love, the joy , the pain
repalced in part by shattered dreams
and promises that fade
Why didn't you take a part of me with you when you know
Should we meet again a solemn night
a dark moonlit sky
I'll hand you that flower with my heart inside
then I'll ask you why.
