The Phormula performed at Summer Jam 2005 @ McDonald Theater. Story: 3 Emcee’s and DJ Phonics, The Sound Scientist, combine to create a style of Hip-Hop that is catchy but not commercial. The Phormula’s music portrays a positive up lifting attitude while maintaining the unique ability to entertain the crowd by conveying a clear message on each track. Emcee’s Philosophy, his brother Examine, and AlphaMatic all attended the same high school while growing up. Now they rock stages, write rhymes, and drop clever lyrics on the beats that DJ Phonics produces. This four-man team has a flawless, hi-energy performance that brings the audience to life and gets everyone involved. The 3 emcees interact naturally with one other on stage, while DJ Phonics provides the record scratches that truly accentuate the Phormula’s raw underground style. Press Quotes: “For fans of Pharcyde, The Phormula is one of the best hip-hop picks all around. Thick, heavyweight hip-hop that's always about the groove, these guys are turning heads all over the place. Hailing from hip Eugene, Oregon they wrap up the boom of the city with the chilled out, kicked back chill of a progressive college town. Wrapping in soul, jazz and lounge, every track is killer.” (CDBABY.COM- Portland, Or.) “Typically, hip-hop and raunchy lyrics go hand in hand. But that isn’t the case for Eugene Hip-Hop group The Phormula, a crew that puts on shows for charity and avoids vulgar lyrics. The members of the Phormula challenge the associations that go with rap” (Oregon Daily Emerald Eugene, OR)

Lyrics
SKETCH PHILOSOPHY: I raise the standard of artistic assault, My spring-loaded pen moves like San Andres fault Shake competition make them want to stop They never pushed their limit but they jump to the top Hang for a moment then Fosberry Flop Yo when it hits the street it will shatter on the block They couldn’t wait to see your record drop So I threw it out the window while everybody watched. They got dizzy the way it went around In a circular motion with your repetitive sound It will ride the air waves but it will spiral down Every decibel is decimal small Either keep chasing or let the Frisbee fall If catch on then give me a call This is animated image like Disney Walt But with these words that are written like Whitman Strong is the structure that will always with stand What you made will fall it was built in quick sand It’s slipping away frantically motionless Dying to blow up but you’ve got no explosiveness I’m about to detonate don’t approaching this It’s like flying straight for the sun please award the pun You we’re told to pay attention but how afforded none Lost you’re endorsements you’re begging for hand out And wouldn’t have the strength to standout If you was the white moon in a pitch black sky, my fist hits, black eye Words jump from the page their bound to reach you Look to close you’ll get you’re cheeked bruised by these unique views A solid three dimensions X-rays can’t see through. STRIKYLY: Let it hang out watch the story stretch throw it to you like a bone go fetch Words to mic it’s the game catch and you’re running wild after the tales I sketch. PHILOSOPHY: Philosophy is drawn to this, magnetically it’s too strong to resist. The attraction increases the closer I get. Pulling me in like the fingers of a tightly clinched fist Closer to me then your heart and crucifix the one on your neck just hanging off Looking out the window I saw a flaming cross That someone left at my doorstep and really not a threat Until he meets me in the middle where our paths intersect Operate the numbers I have a seven punch combo to connect like X & Y intercept Put on the line get the point across Then raise the stake no matter what the cost Hit him where it hurts everything lost Watch him stick to the point when I break the tip off Pierce pin-point precise depart from the table he don’t want to pay the price Waiting for the bill he got his bell rang twice Stuck with the tip that’s sharp as a knife Gamble for possessions but couldn’t save his life Cardiac broken heart in arrest because my interest Plunge in and enter depths unmatched by the best I drive point home and let the splinter rest Deeply embedded in the center of your chest STRIKYLY: Let it hang out watch the story stretch throw it to you like a bone go fetch Words to mic it’s the game catch and you’re running wild after the tales I sketch. You think you got it feel it in your chest trying to hold on with your arms out stretched Swing you into orbit with a fable farfetched enter revolutions that have never been sketched PHILOSOPHY: Drawing to this I’m just a sketcher I drew the picture call me M.C. Escher Seen in many ways make the image fresher Words come alive I’m also professor Speak philosophy when I enter the sector Don’t need the crown or the scepter When I’m on the mic you get no word in the lecture And if you speak out of turn YO you leave on stretcher.
