Story behind the song
[ Written about the ongoing conflict in Darfur (Sudan) and western indifference to the situation. While the United states labelled the conflict "genocide" (and promptly did nothing much to stop it), while the UN (and Britain) failed to acknowledge it as such and waited until 2006 to act. "Never Again" is a phrase used in relation to the Holocaust, and the idea that mankind should not allow such brutal murderous acts to occur again, it has also been used in relation to the Rwandan Genocide and the conflict in Darfur. 'Human Rights Watch' described the conflict as below; "Since early 2003, Sudanese government forces and militia called “Janjaweed” have been engaged in an armed conflict with rebel groups called the Sudanese Liberation Army/Movement (SLA/SLM) and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM). As part of its operations against the rebels, government forces waged a systematic campaign of “ethnic cleansing” against civilians who are members of the same ethnic groups as the rebels. Sudanese government forces and the Janjaweed militias burned and destroyed hundreds of villages, caused tens of thousands of civilian deaths, displaced millions of people, and raped and assaulted thousands of women and girls." - www.hrw.org ]
