Story behind the song
In 1985 I was reading a lot of books on natural history, and beginning to listen to a lot of African music and African-inspired music.
Lyrics
Another warm morning here in Sweet Home Pangea.
So much to tell since we were spit from the sun.
There's not much life around here, but it's improving.
The trilobites never knew it, but the continents are moving.
Creatures of the water chased the plants onto the land.
No salamander ever saw the hand of The Almighty
Neither did the canyons; it was rivers did their grooving.
Making mountains out of motion where the continents are moving.
We could wait and wait and see no closing of a strait
Or any new creature mutate. A lifetime's too short too relate.
Creative, we belie a process slower than the eye.
The hour hands of our watches, by comparison, they are zooming.
Hey, I'm Dino and I'm after you. Keep away from my eggs you fur-ball shrew.
We were biggest, we were baddest, we weren't number two to no tree rat the likes of you.
In the heat of the sun, I can put up a fight, but you warm-blooded critters keep me up all night.
I had zit on my forehead, and it's still there.
Now I wish that I had longer hair.
I had a zit on my forehead, and now it's gone.
Ain't it great how
Life goes on.
Some say a bit too long.
But life goes on
After Dino's dead and gone.
It goes on and on.
Even if we launch the bombs
There will be bugs and grass,
But no one to mow the lawn.
Impressed so easily are the brains of these apes.
Show them a fetal pig and watch their boggled gapes.
I heard some news the other day. Wasn't very soothing.
People in the White House think the continents aren't moving.
Sometimes I reminisce back to sweet home Pangea.
No one ever found Jesus in a flour tortilla.
Something transcends our science, but there's no proving.
It's just a gut feeling and the continents are moving.
