Story behind the song
I was emailing a friend in Great Britain about the absurdities of the Christmas season especially when we were looking at a particularly lean Christmas and I came up with the lyrics. I had my son, Van, do the backing vocals.
Lyrics
CHRISTMAS GOING DOWN VERSE: Black Friday causing a stampede People rushing to buy what they don’t need. Housing market is in the dump Stock market continues to slump Everyone acting half their age On the streets, there’s road rage CHORUS: Christmas this year is going down Trying to smile when you want to frown Christmas this year is going down Trying to smile when you want to frown VERSE: Normal people are acting crazy The true meaning has become hazy Children still believe that reindeer fly In Iraq, people continue to die Reindeer paws on the roof tops Somehow the insanity never stops CHORUS: VERSE: Every merchant is having a sale This year can’t afford to fail Even though economic times are hard Got to jack up the credit card Don’t let travel plans spoil Just raised the price of oil CHORUS:

Uncompromising lyric about the truth of christmas for so many people, should be about friendship and caring but ends up with who can afford the best presents to impress others !

Hi, This song is not about the birth of Jesus even though the Christmas spirit is somewhat down. I have to admitt the words make up an honest song but do a song pertaining to the Lord and you will feel His peace no matter what you are going through. That is what i am doing to feel better! Try to feel Baby Jesus peace, your friend Ellen
