Poverty Park brings out the best in good old fashion heavy metal, and brings it to the new era.
Poverty Park formed in 1989. Later that year they recorded their first demos. What would be called the Shattered Life single. The next year they released their debut, "Poverty In The Park". In 1991 Poverty Park released "Ground Zero". This would be considered the bands breakout release. With the track Follow Me. Receiving considerable air play on college stations. Due to live bookings. The band wouldn't release another full length album until 1997. When the band released the album "Now A Days". However the band released several 2-3 song singles. In between "Ground Zero", and "Now A Days". To support the album. The band would play and headline, the "HempAid Festival" on Rainbow Farms, in Vandalia Michigan. The band would go on hiatus, later in 1997. After the death of guitarist Steve Muma. Poverty Park played their last show. With the original line up. On September 7th 1997.
But members J. Blaylock (vocals/guitars), and J Hopson(drums) would occationally reunite and perform at several jam sessions. In 2005 remaining members J Blaylock and J Hopson joined by bassist Damien Detris. Formerly of the band Beloved Betrayal. Damien became the bands first full time bassist (which makes him our original bassist).. To bring Poverty Park back as an internet project. They released the 5 song EP Heros. The guys had plans on bringing the band back. As a full scale live band. Which came to pass. Not long after the Heros release. When the guys did a jam session tour. Poverty Park is also proud to announce that the "Heros EP" earned the band a 2005 IMMIE Nomination. . In 2006 J Blaylock, and J Hopson regrouped. For another P.P collaberation. A two volume set of demos and raw outtakes titled "Last Rites". Volume One was released in 2006. With Volume Two following suite in 2007. The track "Death Before Dishonor" gave the band their first Top40 (sub-genre) hit on the "Heavy Metal" Charts. On Soundclick.com. With "Death Before Dishonor". Breaking the Top20. Peaking at 11. The Last Rites cds. Also gave Poverty Park their first 2 bonified hits. With Thief Of Time, being given the status of "A Soundclick Top100 Song", and Death Before Dishonor being named "A Soundclick Top50 Song". On June 15th 2008. Poverty Park (J Blaylock, J Hopson, and Damien D) released an all new full length studio cd. The first since 1997. The cd was titled As American As... But later that year the band suffer a tragic loss. When Poverty Park drummer J Hopson. Surcumbed to a brain illness. Just before the release of the bands cd, Hotel Hell.
In 2009, the band released a compilation cd, titled Demos, Jams, and Live S--t. Which focased on the bands original line-up, and in 2010. Poverty Park was back on the rise. J Blaylock and former bassist turned producer, Damien D. Teamed up to put together, Demos, Jams, and Other S--t. Which features the band's music through the early 2000's. In 2011, Poverty Park re-released their Ground Zero cd. As a 20th Anniversary release. Through the distributors Soundclick and CdBaby. Followed up in 2012 by the bands next Soundclick Top10 Song, D.H.S. Also through CdBaby and Soundclick.
In 2013 the band made up of J Blaylock. on vocals and all guitars, and Al Nash (formerly of Detroit Death Trap) on drums, and Rob Ramos (formerly of Save The Crucified). Began a new round of practicing, and writing all new music.
In 2014 the band released a new cd, titled The Perfect Storm. Which gave the band 3 more hit songs. As the demo version of "I Hate You" (released separate from the album). Hit the Soundclick Top10 topping at #2 on the Metal charts, and the first official single, "Left Behind". Gave the band another Soundclick Top50 song, landing at #48. On the Metal charts. With the second official single, titled Sicken Season. Gave the band a Soundclick Top20 song. making it to #13. On June 15th 2014, the band released the single No Apologies (Live). As a stand alone single. Which broke into the Soundclick Top50 (Metal Charts).
In 2015, the band kicked off the year by releasing another compilation album titled Warship Music (Outtakes 1989-2014), on Feb 13th. The band also has plans to release a follow up album. To their 2014 release, The Perfect Storm. Later in the year.
On 2-12-2015, the bands single, Defiance (Live). Debuted on the Soundclick.com Metal Charts at #4 and the Thrash Charts at #1. The band went on a last minute hiatus. Which due in part. To the covid 19 pandemic, lasted until 2021.
In October 2021, the band announced they were back. With the release of the new single, United. Which will be released, November 12th 2021.
The band went on and in 2022. Released the track, John Wayne. Which was released on February 25th 2022, and as of March 15th 2022. Bassist Rob Ramos, is no longer with the band. With Poverty Park stating, "Over time priorities change. However, the other members. Are still just as totally committed to the furture of the band, and the projects already planned".
The band welcomed back former bassist Damien Detris. Who will represent the band for the foreseeable future.
On April 2, 2022. Poverty Park announced the passing of the bands drummer Al Nash. After a short and sudden illness. Which was a combination of a stroke and heart attack. Brought on my undiagnosed stage 3 cancer.
A statement from the band. States they are still united. But taking time to grieve.
