Story behind the song
This is for all the women in abusive relationships who are afraid to tell their story. I'm your voice.
Lyrics
He beats and berates her/ continuously rapes her/ Till she’s worn down like the end of an eraser/ Regardless of his ruthless ways/ and the rough he plays/ She tells me that she’s seen better days/ And so she prays, with fresh cuts in her face/ Got me wondering, girl, why do you stay?/ She paints a smile onto her face every day, follows through with the ruse like the script of a play/ It’s almost flawless but I can see right through it/ I confronted her, she said, “I love him, and I’m used to it”/ I told her, girl, that’s not how it’s supposed to be/ But she didn’t listen, took him back and called it loyalty/ She refused to leave, said they were just having issues/ But everywhere I looked, her floor was littered with tissues/ Fresh tear drops slowly soaked into the floorboards / I held her close till she couldn’t hold back no more/ I let her cry, for the times, he let his fists fly/ She cried for the days that she wished she’d died/ She cried for the life that she now despised/ And she cried for herself for living this lie/ Her eyes began to shine, her face split into a smile/ She embraced me tightly and held on for a while/ And for one brief moment, I knew she was at peace/ She was on top of the world and no longer underneath/ It was time for me to go, so I hugged her goodbye/ She said thank you for never leaving my side/ I gave her one last hug and a kiss goodbye, winked her an eye, then walked straight into the night/ The next day, the news came to me as a shock/ My heart dropped, my lungs popped and the whole world stopped/ She was on the news, her face was battered and bruised/ The Headlines called it a case of abuse/ She was beaten to death, her husband shot in the head/ Another murder suicide case for the feds/ I stood over the casket and closed my eyelids/ then recalled a memory of when we were kids/ We promised each other we’d always be friends and she kept her end of the bargain way up to the end/ As I kissed her cold head, the tears continued to flow/ I Shut my eyes tight as her body was laid low/I promised her soul that I would never let go/ So, I’ma keep tellin her story till the whole world knows/
