Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
When I first started writing this song, I thought it was inpsired. By the time I was done, though, I wasn't as sure. The message almost sounded like I was trying to usurp authority from God. Recently, though, I read an eye-opening article by John Lynn. He put the same message (that I intended in the song) into fresh wording that rid me of doubt. Lyrics
v.1 After I was born again, For many years, God held my hand. But finally God said to me, "This is your life. Now take command." Chorus 1 So, I am the one in charge here. This came as news to me To learn that God expected more out of me, To learn that I should be the steward God said I could be. That dead old man that I used to be Would cringe at such responsibility But now it's time to demonstrate To that dead old man that he's second rate. So, Fear, this is my life. Get off of my land. I am the one in charge here. And now I've given Fear his command. v.2 The only way my life will work Is to keep my God as my boss. So when He says to take command, I have to do it with humbleness. Now... Chorus 2 I am the one in charge here. God put that job on me. And more than that He gave to me the authority. And more than that He gave to me all the power I need. And this power is not in my fists or my feet. This power is in the words that I speak. And now it's time to utilize Some words to drive out the devil's lies. So, Doubt, this is my life. Be on your way. I am the one in charge here, and I am the one Doubt must obey.
