Story behind the song
I saw smitten by a woman at a Big Band Dance Festival in Chicago. I was hoping to dance with her but never got the chance. The song was originally written with orchestration in mind to get more of a big band sound, but I stripped it down to this bluesy number..
Lyrics
You were leaning against the wall of the Mid-West Taj Mahal Short dark hair, white stockings and dancing shoes Dressed in roses of blue People dancing to the sounds of big band beats Bodies swirling around Tapping your heel to the rhythm in your soul Please dance with me Swinging silhouettes on the balcony Dancing in the shadows where no one can see Starlit ceiling twinkles above Sparkle like your eyes when you fall in love I gaze into the courtyard and see your face Dancing with another Hundreds of bodies and I stand alone You snuggle in his arms and I stand like stone Please dance with me Smoke curls upward along minaret spire "No Smoking" signs but my heart was on fire I turned to go gazed over the dance floor Bodies galore but you were no more Like Cinderella's prince I looked for the shoe of my dancing princess dressed in roses of blue Please dance with me (repeat first verse)
