Not all prog rock is about wizards and dragons, this is a gritty diatribe for anyone who's ever been laid off. It sucks.

Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
Well yeah it's happened to me twice, years ago, but I don't think you ever truly recover. This started out as a simple folk song, but somehow acquired a monstrous hip-hop kick drum and then a string quartet and then sort of went bonkers.
Lyrics
It doesn't have to make economic sense That kind of logic doesn't seem to make a difference It's just sometimes that your face doesn't fit And there's nothing you can do about it See, people don't know the truth They only know what they perceive Take more than just a few facts To change what they believe And one man's truth is another man's cold hard lie In the end which man am I? There's no indemnity No pretence of loyalty What price integrity In a world of greedy men? Now I realise that my prime time has drifted by Who will indemnify me? Yes I realise that they're human too In their place I wonder what would this sinner do? Would I find the courage somehow To do the right thing Or knife the next guy Just to save my own skin? So who gets the chequered flag And who's the burning wreck Is merely a question of who gets to rig the deck So, please, scan the barcode on the back of my neck And check my "use by" date There's no indemnity No pretence of loyalty What price integrity In a world of greedy men? Now I realise that my prime time has drifted by Who will indemnify me? Your decisions are yours There are no documented procedures When all is said and done You're on a team of one

fantastic! the abrupt ending of the main phrase (1st 2 rounds) is of genius. the sounds and variations are perfect. impressive level of musicianship (even if it's by computer)

Totally awesome! Very chaotic but still in control. Sounds a little like Tom Petty backed by The Beatles in their LSD-period. STrange at times, but very beautiful and very original. Love the ideas, love the song. A favourite!

Brilliant lyrics, captures the feelings of so many. Love the change of gear at around 2:10 and wow..that guitar solo! I remember what it was like trying to play the political game at work and fit in...which is why I became self-employed so that I'm now in the driving seat. Great lyrics. Love that solo on the keys - excellent stuff.

this turned out quite grand actually.. what starts as a simple song sometimes gets hijacked by the emotions. this one most definitely benefited by all the extra toil Steve! Bravo!
