Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
My most libidinous piece to date...and a much fuller collaboration with Jon. It started with the repeating guitar rif - acoustic at first -and then developed a finger-picked folky twiddle around Am as a break (not that you'd notice now). The lyrics started to get a litlle steamy though, so I went electric when recording with flanged rhythm guitar and a foreground lead. The lead guitar ran into the first part of the instrumental verse but then I cut it back with a semi-walking bass for the instrumental break. I sent it on to Jon with instructions for a 'chilled yet smoulderingly lustful' sax break with a rock out ending... he obliged in style, adding a much funkier drum part than my original. words and music by Martin Stirrup 2010 featuring Jon Garvey on alto sax and drums
Lyrics
Hideaway (Em F#m G) repeating rif.. Em F#m G Em F#m G I’ve got an inkling of what you’re thinking Em F#m G Em F#m G A No need for drinking why don’t we slip away Em F#m G Em F#m G Your body is shaking I feel that you’re aching Em F#m G Em F#m G A Maybe you’re faking sometimes it’s hard to say B D Em F#m G etc Till I get you to our hideaway Through all the laughter you know what I’m after Let’s cut all the banter my cards are all on display Eye’s started locking, the feel of your stocking The thought’s not so shocking what’s the use of delay Let me take you to our hideaway (Am twiddle) Em (Am twiddle) Em (Am twiddle) (Bm twiddle) (Am twiddle) B (7) Em F#m G etc Try not to rush it, wait for the moment to come Though I’m losing my judgement I’ll wait for the moment to come The smell of you body it’s all getting heady You know that I’m ready still I’ll wait for the moment to come (Instrumental verse ) Through all the laughter you know what I’m after Let’s cut all the banter my cards are all on display It’s odds-on the betting, my forehead is sweating I know you’ll be letting me in, that you’ve chosen to play Let me take you to our hideaway Eye’s starting locking, but wait for the moment to come The feel of your stocking oh wait for the moment to come Fever is rising beyond my devising Hardly surprising can’t wait for the moment to come The feel of you stocking… My hand on your stocking… Let it slide…. (Fade out)
