Story behind the song
Bill Clinton signed the North American Free Trade Agreement. Other than that and Monica Lewinski, he did a lot of GOOD things. This treaty, while it looks good on its face, resulted in the mass export of jobs from the United States. Seems to some folks, your countrymen don't matter when you can make a buck...
Lyrics
There are some lyrics some folks might find offensive. Nothing overtly sexual in nature, just cursing... NAFTA I turned off the TV, Shut down the radio. They kept tellin' me things I don't want to know. I heard the price of a new car, And I thought they were nuts... Sellin' buckets of rust For twenty thousand bucks. A service economy can feed off itself for a spell. But without the producers Making new products, Soon it will all go to hell. While down at McDonalds, we'll work till we're eighty With Chinese-made aprons and hats, Sayin', "We're glad you're here!" "Is that a large?" And, "Do you want fries with that?" I heard somewhere in Washington Some guy's gettin' rich. He's stealing my living, That son-of-a- b*** . He used NAFTA to move All our jobs way down south Steal the bread from my babies And the food from my mouth. A service economy can feed off itself for a spell. But without the producers Making new products, Soon it will all go to hell. While down at McDonalds, we'll work till we're eighty With Chinese-made aprons and hats, Sayin', "We're glad you're here!" "Is that a large?" And, "Do you want fries with that?" They say the jobs that they're taking Nobody will do. But they're makin' cars And refrigerators, too. They're closing down plants To save a few bucks Now we can't afford To buy Japanese trucks. A service economy can feed off itself for a spell. But without the producers Making new products, Soon it will all go to hell. While down at McDonalds, we'll work till we're eighty With Chinese-made aprons and hats, Sayin', "We're glad you're here!" "Is that a large?" And, "Do you want fries with that?" Sayin', "We're glad you're here!" "Is that a large?" And, "Do you want fries with that?"
