Story behind the song
I'm not a church goer, but have sung a lot of gospel music. This came out as a gospel tune, but is about being burned out on churches and still being a religious person.
Lyrics
verse:
It's Sunday somewhere, but here it's just another day.
It's Sunday somewhere, but I've forgotten how to pray.
Too many years of Sunday school.
Too many years of learning the rules.
chorus:
Well, I got religion,
But it ain't got me.
Won't say the Act of Contrition
When I'm sorry.
Won't find me in a meeting tent.
Don't ask me to repent
Just 'cuz it's Sunday somewhere.
verse:
God isn't dead. He just don't spend much time in church.
So I don't think he minds that I look elsewhere in my search,
That I'm AWOL
Looking for the sense of it all.
chorus
verse:
It's Sunday somewhere, but here it's just another day.
It's Sunday somewhere. Don't tell me what to say.
Churches try to tell me how to find the Light,
But once I'm inside, it ain't burnin' so bright.
