Story behind the song
Seeing the poet Allen Ginsberg read to a very small group left a lasting impression, and for some reason this song came into my head fairly recently as I was riding my bike.
Lyrics
I saw Allen Ginsberg read in the basement of John Oliver high school Reading to a group of about maybe forty. He read some short and he read some long and he sang us Blake's "Nurses Song" And "all the winds echoed" and he said If I have a heart attack on the track around Lake Louise will I be ready to face my mother If I have a heart attack on the track around Lake Louise will I be ready to face my mother And the mannequin stares at her fingernails. I saw Allen Ginsberg read I was young and melancholy, all alone and it made me feel the way you can feel when you're young. He read us Howl and America and his pen ran out of ink as he was signing my copy of Reality Sandwiches and he said If I have a heart attack.........
