Y'all either heard us or seen us comin', WE BUDHITE KNIGHTS, We Here Now, I've come to tell you...
SolidarityCultureFamilythese are the foundations of life that represent exactly what it’s like to be a Budhite (BOOD-AYTE) Knight. The current artists of the “bling bling” era of hip-hop often overlook these fundamentals of brotherhood and existence, but not this crew. Welcome to the world of the Budhite Knights, a world of feeding off the energy of your people, a world of secret handshakes and expressions like “Scungle Monkey” that only the Knights understanduntil now. Enter five life-long blood brothers (Danjah, Misjif, B-Easy, Lauchii, and Knowledge), and game is going to have to adjust to massive change real quick. As the hook in their leadoff single shouts “We Here Now”, the Knights are either inviting you to become part of their culture, or stand out of their way with your back against the wall. The first incarnation of the Budhite Knights, The Blunt Kings, was formed in 1996 in the Piscataway Heights section of “Dirty Jersey”. Citing strong influences from Redman to Tupac, the Blunt Kings would openly accept and dominate any MC’s challenge throughout the Metropolitan Area. Through the years, as friends and women came and went, the members were in and out of jail due to various brushes with the law, one constant in the Knight’s life was just thatthe Knights, no matter who was up or who was down. Even though each Budhite Knight brings a little something different to the table, the result is a uniform sound that is cutting edge and distinct. It is music that people from all walks of life can relate to. This can be attributed to each Knight being born in different areas of the US, from Cali to Chicago to New Jersey, but becoming men together on the streets. The talent the group possesses ultimately came from their trials and tribulations, and is an evolution from the Blunt Kings of the past to the present day Budhite Knights. Of its’ 5 members, Danjah represents the leader or the “big brother” of the crew, who is looked upon by the 4 other Knights for an overall sense of direction As his name indicates, he has a fierce and forceful rhyming style that can be equivocated to a heavyweight boxer beating on his heavy bag. His brother Misjif is the live wire of the group, because at times nobody knows what he’s going to spit (or do) next, hence his mischievous moniker. But his uncanny delivery and constant shout-outs to the Budhite Knights demonstrate his raw power, intense energy, and dedication to his crew. Lauchii (rhymes with Versace) is the slick talkin’ ladies man of the Knights, whose everyday love for life is imminent in his smooth, laid back delivery. Knowledge is on a whole other level as far as his methodical ways of thinking. His fast-paced play on words indicate that his rhymes don’t apply to the lyrically challenged. B-Easy considers himself the chameleon of the crew due to his unusual capability to adapt to just about any style or beat thrown his way. He is the final piece of the puzzle and the bread that holds the sandwich together. As a whole, this group of ultra-talented MC’s forms the Budhite Knights, whose music is so fierce and catchy, that it can be described as tribal. The Budhite Knights plan to take over the game is a cold and calculated one. They have been recording in major studios for the past two years, perfecting their craft and learning from the trials and tribulations that go with the struggle to break out onto the scene. They are currently hard at work on their debut EP, as well as appearances at open mics, showcases, and festivals, as well as on various mix tapes throughout the country. “We are in this game not only because our overall love of hip-hop and everything associated with it, but also because we want to show people what our life struggles have been like, and replicate our lives in our music,” Danjah reiterated. Now the question, is are YOU ready for the KNIGHT life?
