This is the finale movement of my First String Quartet, composed in 1958 at the age of 22. It is a MIDI performance and lacks the expression that live musicians would provide, but it will give a ballpark idea of how it was intended to sound.

I was very much under the influence of Schoenberg and the late Beethoven quartets at the time. Accordingly, I tried to write a Beethovenesque fugue using the 12-tone musical idiom developed by Schoenberg.
