Lake Fork Verne and his banjo. Original country and Americana songs. Songs of yesteryear, growing up during the great depression 1930's and the way things are
Just me and my banjo...writing and singing about how things used to be long ago in the 30;s and 40's and how those experiences affect today. I started out wanting to get on record these stories and songs for my grandchildren; but after doing it for a while, others have expresses interest so we are recording and putting them out there.

Hickory Axe Handles © by: Verne Garrison December 30, 2007 Valley Park, Mo. Banjo tuned to E—Key of D Slow to moderate tempo Hickory Axe Handles Look (D) at this axe- handle So sleek, shiny, and (A) smoothe Carved by my grandpa in 1931 A sharp knife, piece of broken glass Were his only (D) tools The (D) pattern was drawn on A straight piece of hickory one by (A) four Pile of shavings, days later, handle was Shaped by his skilled hands once (D) more I (D) dont know how many he made, But they were well crafted, as you can (A) see I am so happy that he made them And that he gave one to (D) me It stands in a corner of my room I touch it every now and (A) then Its sleek smooth lines Remind me so of (D) him Yes (D) Grandpa made axe handles, He carved them from pictures in his (A) mind Every time I pick one up, and feel it It takes me back to that special (D) time Tag: It takes me back to that special time.
