Lyrics
1000 papercuts It started with Mark Thomson and his book of Traveller’s Tales Full of tunes what he had writed for guitar With hammer ons and pull offs to confound the average Jo It was clearly too advanced for me by far It all looked very simple when you see it in the book And sounds sublime when played on the CD But it left my fingers bleeding and my brain was bleeding too It’s clearly just too bleeding hard for me I cannot read the dots and now I am not even sure If I can make some sense of this confounded tablature But struggle on I will, I won’t accept no ifs or buts I’m slowly dying from a thousand papercuts And then came Mr Chesterton who did collaborate With Mr White to do another book of tunes And though standard tuning was the order of the day for him It may as well be from the dark side of the moon There was not only a cd but there was some video Supposed to make things easier; show where the fingers go But turning pages left my hands a festering open sore don’t think my hands can take this punishment much more I cannot read the dots and now I am not even sure If I can make some sense of this confounded tablature But struggle on I will, I won’t accept no ifs or buts I’ll stop when I am murdered by a thousand papercuts Then in comes Stuart Ryan and he tells us he’s a book Of traditional fingerstyle guitar, I thought I’d take a look To see if this was any easier on my fingers or my brain But it turns out I am facing the same problems once again With squiggles, dots and numbers that are meant to play a song It can’t be me, it must be them, they’ve all been transcribed wrong Cos my fingers are just bleeding stumps and I don’t give a toss Unless the next book’s writ by Jonny Moss I cannot read the dots and now I am not even sure If I can make some sense of this confounded tablature But struggle on I will, I won’t accept no ifs or buts I’ll stop when I am murdered by a thousand papercuts
