I brushed the dirt
From an old monument
Honoring the brave men and women
Who served their country
By now they're all dead
Another army marches instead
To take their place
In a world at war
Where even the strong will perish
And God refuses to take sides
No matter what the generals decide
I wonder if they ever felt
The sacrifice they made was wasted
I wonder if they ever thought
Their place in history would fade away
Like the statue in the park
Rusting away in the dark
In a world at war
There's always a need for more
Soldiers
My Daddy volunteered
In the frenzy of the day
Two years turned to six
That he was away
He was never the same man
An eery sadness came over him
Whenever he was asked about the war
He looked off into space and whispered
"No more"
The church bells are ringing
To honor the living and the dead
I only know what I was told
As hearts grow cold again
The drums of war can be heard beating
They never seem to end
I can still hear my Daddy whispering
"No more"
