If it's hot then give God the glory. If it's not then blame me
If it's hot then give God the glory. If it's not then blame Mitch.
I'm Joe Johnson a local United Methodist Pastor. Before I felt God calling me into the ministry I thought I was going to be a rap artist. For 8 years I did nothing with music until my wife introduced me to a group called "The Gospel Gansters" in 1998. It was an eye opening experience. I was amazed to see people using rap for the glory of God. That day I picked up paper and pen and I haven't put it down yet.
Story behind the song
It's hard to wait on the Lord, but when we do we grow
Lyrics
LEARN HOW TO FLY
They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength mount up like eagles and fly
They that wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength
Fear and doubt weigh down, leave them behind
Leave fear behind Leave doubt behind (wait on the Lord) leave them behind
Leave fear behind Leave doubt behind learn how to fly.
Lord I’m desperate I’m restless and I’m scared to death
The doctor had bad news results from my test
Lord I know I heard in your word that if we believe
all we need to do is ask, and we shall receive.
And if we knock the door will be open in time
All we have to do is Seek and we surely shall find”
well Lord, I've been asking, knocking, and seeking all day
But you wont give the answer I want to the prayers that I say
Instead You keep coming up with this you got to wait stuff
Makes me speculate and debate if You’re really God enough
to handle my problems or should I take them back
Maybe you got too many people calling on you to keep track
of every concern, and issue that burns
I’ve been taught to trust you, but it’s hard to practice what I’ve learned
God, will I live or die? Just give it to me straight
Tell me anything you want. Just don’t tell me to wait!
Well, God knelt down and His eyes wept with mine,
And He tenderly said, "Son, I could give you a sign.
Every All you seek, I could give, but you still don’t see
You might have what you want -- but, you wouldn't know ME.
You'd never learn to see through the clouds of despair;
you'd never learn to trust just by knowing I'm there;
Sure, You'd know that I give and I heal, for a start
But you wouldn’t know greatest thing I can do is to change your heart
You wouldn’t know The glow of my comfort, coming late in the night.
Or The faith that I give when you walk not by sight,
So just be still, my child, and in time you will see
that the greatest miracle in life is to get to know me.
And even if you die you shall live again
And mount up on wings like eagles and we’ll fly in the wind
And though my answers to you may seem to come terribly late,
My answers is still “Child you must WAIT."

I was given this CD at a ministerial retreat. I was doubtful I would enjoy this because I'm not a rap lover. I've found Christian rap is different. I LOVE this song and was blessed to have met Rev Joe Johnson. As instructed on the CD cover, I've made copies and distributed to several co-workers in the Louisville, KY area.
