a few years ago when frank zappa left us i was sad but i said alright some of the others are still alive but today when i heard that lou had died the tears came swelling to my eyes.and i think to myself man they are all gone now. the fathers have passed all of them soldiers in the avant guard.
try as i might i never fit in thats how frank and lou came to be my main men lou told about the truth of the street and frank poked at the shallowness of the pool way far beyond the fool on the hill. david and alice are good for a show but they are only in it to collect the dough. i hear the music on the radio singers crooning rythim and blues songs about love and about the hate and how the geeky guy's still can't get dates.
frank and the turkey farms out palmdale way and lou's beloved streets of new york city told me more than any diddy wah diddy. here's to the fallen soldiers of the avant guard those guy's that fought so hard to try and explain life their way. the guy's with the ball's to step out of line to question the ways  of our times.
here's to the other guy's the one's that did not seek the hit the one's that knew the music business was full of sh** .beefheart died he was avant for avant sake frank passed on and left us with questions on our minds lou went and gave us the knowledge of the street wise. so here's to the fallen soldiers of the american avant guard. long live the american avant guard. we had the british invasion ate l s d and freaked out with the walrus but it was the american avant guard that showed them where to start
