Years ago I wrote this song, only it was written for a woman singer. Today I decided to rewrite the lyrics to suit a man so I could sing it! My pal Ken Lee did the backing!
Stan loves music, is published (EMI/Capitol), and has experience performing on radio and TV when it was live in the good old days. These days he's just writing
Songwriter of pop, country, inspirational songs. I like to write. I travel a lot to Asia...so my music may have an Asian influence.
Story behind the song
The original gal who sang it for me is Joanna McCormick. Unfortunately I have lost touch with her...but what a great voice! That version is called Only A Rose.
This song was submitted to EMI, and I am told that it went very high up the ladder before it got rejected. And I am told it was because the original lyrics did not meet their criteria!
Lyrics
Only My Rose
Copyright November 1, 2013 Stan Loh
G Dbdim
Only my rose, only my rose,
G C
Can fulfill my pining heart, should I suppose?
G B7 Em
When you left me for that guy I almost died,
G B7 Em
Can I change your mind, can I pacify?
Chorus
C Dbdim G Em
Give him up! Give him up! He will be hell,
C D7 G
He will flaunt his good looks to some other gal…
VERSE 2
G Dbdim
Only his kind will find a way,
G C
To wrest you from my arms, keeps truth at bay,
G B7 Em
And his so called love will wilt when comes the dawn,
G B7 Em
Where his smile comes from, a mouth with spiny thorns,
Repeat Chorus
VERSE 3
G Dbdim
Only my rose, could grant me love,
G C
I’m the one who cares so much, nothing’s enough,
G B7 Em
Look the blood he draws is crimson red,
G B7 Em
And your heart that’s left is stone cold dead,
C Dbdim G Em
Give him up! Give him up! He will be hell,
C D7 G
He will flaunt his good looks to some other gal…
C Dbdim G Em
Give him up! Give him up! He will be hell,
C D7 G
He will flaunt his good looks to some other gal…
