DESCENDANTS OF ASAPH Asaph was the first and chief musician in the early days before the temple was built in Jerusalem. By all accounts (1Chron 16v5) he was a percussionist and drummer and together with Heman and Jeduthun formed the first worship band to accompany the choir in praise and worship of God He wrote a number of psalm lyrics under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. His lyrics are very down to earth and he likes to say things exactly as they are! 'Descendants of Asaph' follow in his tradition and is a virtual band dedicated to making music and song unto the Lord and presenting His challenge to the world today through parables in music. Lyrics
Unto Us Shadows steal across the desert sands Night falls hard as sunlight fades A myriad of silvery stars survey the lonely road Nearing journey's end, her time draws near Yesterday a child, today the weight of motherhood The market place is crowded tonight In downtown Bethlehem Expectant father shops around in search of room and board Time and time again he's turned away There's nothing left to rent but a run down one star cattle shed Shepherds slumber with their flocks on the hills Beneath a starlit canopy A band of restless angels burst upon the peaceful scene Puzzled shepherds watch with bewilderment Eternal mysteries in choral song revealed I fasten tinsel to a plastic tree and pour a glass of festive cheer Warm myself on Christmas eve beside the open hearth A mother wraps her new born child in rags Baby Jesus draws first breath, sweet stench of cattle hide Unto us, Unto us a child is born Unto us, unto us a son is given And the government shall be upon His shoulders The destiny of all mankind placed in such tiny hands
