Story behind the song
Sub-dude Blues (Copyright 2004) Words and Music by David L. Jones I wanted to do a raucous blues number with a screaming lead guitar line. In some respects I have been a frustrated lead guitarist in a trumpet player’s body to the extent that I have used an electronic pick-up on my trumpet mouthpiece and routed that signal through an old Korg guitar synthesizer and guitar effect pedals. I recently acquired the Crumar version of a Steiner EVI (Electronic Valve Instrument) on which I play the solo of this tune. It allows me to not only closely duplicate a lead guitar sound, but also do musical lines that I wouldn’t be able to do on my electronic trumpet set up.
Lyrics
Well, now, I know what you’re doin’ ‘cause I drove by your house last night. (2x) Well, I’m no superhuman, it’s more like I’m “Sub-dude.” My friends all see me on the street. They say “Where’d you get those blues?” Well, now, I know where you’re goin’, I see you walkin’ out the door. (2x) You walk into the chapel, you get down on your knees, you give Him thanks for everything. Well, tell me, pretty please: Tell me just what are you up to, ‘cause I don’t wanna guess no more. (2x) I see it in the papers, I watch it on TV, it’s comin’ through my email. Well, what’s it mean to me? Well, now, I know who you’re seein’, ‘cause I’ve begun to See the Light. Well, now, I know who you’re seein’, ‘cause I’ve begun to see His Light. He takes away my troubles, He showed me the Good News, I just got rid of all my sins, so it’s No more Sub-Dude Blues.
