Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
As dawn breaks across the desert, the mighty temple of Kho-Khanut, ancient Egyptian goddess of music and creativity, looms ominously against the reddening sky. Slowly the high priestess and high priest, Djudlor and Bobemakh, lead a solemn procession of acolytes up the steep steps to the summit. Gradually the procession is joined by dancers and musicians playing strange instruments, weaving in and out between the silent robed walkers. Reaching the top at the exact moment, Djudlor turns as the first dazzling ray of sunlight breaks over the horizon, illuminating the multitude of worshippers who have gathered below for this great celebration. She strikes a ritual gong, giving the signal for the assembled faithful to generally get their freak on and party like it's 1999BC! Created for the Coconut Blues Club ancient Egypt challenge, still going strong 4000 years later.

Ancient Egypt mayhem was never better than this GREAT song, Seth and other Smivets! I love the "change of pace" from heavy to light done with the art of instrumental fusion from drums to flutes to horns to mayhems (ha)...A super listen for the CBC Ancient Egypt Song Challenge - and thanks for the dl to JBBQ's Best of Best Music Station!

What a great musical mind! At first I envisioned warriors putting on their armor for battle. Then as it went on, a feast at the huge table of food and entertainment. Very well thought out and played. Fitting the theme perfectly. If they could have heard this back in those days, a 4th pyramid could have been built!!

Strangely mystifying intro leads in to an even more tangled song body. Nice up-tempo at the 3:11 point with the flute and sitar (I think). Excellent ideas - an Egyptian mayhem indeed!

Fantastic story and a great way to celebrate the Challenge hosts! The piece follows the description very well, procession, dance, party - it's all there and greatly performed and played. Very interesting instruments there, I dare not guess their names :) A different take from your side, but a refreshing and uplifting one!

Seriously epic music Steve, the mighty Djudlor and Bobemakh should be dually placated by your awesome offering :D Great stuff mate!
I laughed at the description but enjoyed the music; both are full of smiles. The moment of sun break is a fantastic change in pace and mood. Party on!

This is an excellent score of music. Dramatic, creative and the kind of "out there" I adore!

At first I was like, where is the quirky song and that smokin' voice of yours?? but you redeemed yourself with coming up with this interesting mix of instruments..the temple is a dark mysterious one I think I will stay away from..who knows what those priests are doing in there..then the belly dancing slave girls come on the scene, probably seducing victims into the temple for sacrificing later :-) Cool work Mr Smivet :-)

Very dramatic and atmospheric, love the way it builds and builds throughout. Great composition and arrangement, plenty to enjoy. Attention grabbing track...and it keeps you hooked right to the last note.

Wow, this is so completely different from what I'm used to, listening to your creations. There is happening a lot and Middle Eastern atmospheres are just there. There is something dark here as well, like we are in a thriller with danger just around the corner. The story is going further. Let's just forget troubles, at 3:10 we start to dance. Nice percussions, flutes. We are dancing wilder and wilder, in a trance, and we will never stop. This is really great, one of the best of this Challenge.
