Story behind the song
SO...WHAT IS THE POLAR VORTEX?...WHY DOES IT COMETH?...AND WITH FREEZING COLD, HEAVY SNOWS, AND HISTORIC WINTER MAYHEM...WHY IS IT DOING THIS TO US??? This time, it IS "US", i.e., U.S., but like Europe last year, the Northern Hemisphere should also BEWARE Future POLAR VORTICES... AND some global warming advocates see an ominous Future Forecast for POLAR VORTICES in the Southern Hemisphere!! For all of the above questions, the Bitter (Cold) answers are in the long and the short. The long answer to, "What is the Polar Vortex?" , can be summarized as follows (from Wikipedia): "A polar vortex (also known as a polar cyclone, polar low, or a circumpolar whirl) is a persistent, large-scale cyclone located near either of a planet's geographical poles. On Earth, the polar vortices are located in the middle and upper proposphere and the stratosphere...They usually span less than 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) in which the air circulates in a counter-clockwise fashion (in the Northern Hemisphere)..." The short answers to "Why does it cometh?" and "Why is it doing this to us???" have been stated most simply in the Cliff Mass Weather Blog: "The Polar Vortex: Myth and Reality" (January 13, 2014): "The term Polar Vortex (or circumploar vortex) has been around for over a half century"...AND THIS WAS THE ULTIMATE POLAR VORTEX FACT: "Ominous 'polar vortex' is real, and really cold." As serious as all of the above info on the POLAR VORTEX is, there is some humour in all of this (so stop shivering and start laughing!). A recent poster showed an erudite gentleman saying: "Only Americans would come up with the term 'polar vortex'; meanwhile in Canada they call it WINTER." A satiric cartoon said: "My thoughts and prayers are with every single food delivery person I shamelessly send into the polar vortex." AND, as a sort of Future Weather Forecast, this "meteorological" report was made in a comedic sign: "Thanks to the Polar Vortex, ths weekend we can expect temperatures with a high of WTF and dropping to a low of OMG!"... AND THAT IS THE POLAR VORTEX "STORY BEHIND THE SONG".
