Story behind the song
The current situation with politics in the US and overseas inspires this song from beginning to end. A dare to people every where to turn there backs on those who don't accurately portray who we are as a people. Joe Negro is a symbol of freedom. A symbol of self enlightenment and a boldness like Ali when he refused Vietnam. It's a wake up call to all those afraid to stand for something.
Lyrics
Meet Joe Negro (Chorus) I'm Joe Negro / I refuse to be a hor /for america. / I got my back against the wall and I'm daring her / to try and slap me in it / even if she traps me in it / I'm going to fight until I die. I'm Joe Negro / I refuse to sell my soul / to America / I got my eyes on the prize and I'm daring her / to try and stab me in them / even if she slaps me in them / I won't let her see me cry... (v1) I'm fighting for a new beginning / but it's got my head spinning / I'm dreading winning / it's only the starting of a new ending / I'm befriending / enemies and loved ones and drugged ones / uniting ones like telephones, the bugged ones / My money aint helping nobody's ends meet / When men be / initiating terrors and wars, they send me / thoughts of hate / debate the new revolutions fate / it's getting late / Nobody is putting food on their plates. (v2) Now I could get into some name calling / but I aint falling / into the same trap that other Negros are falling / My heroes are out of control balling / raping / taking life like they don't want to live it/ They should give it to Liberia for looting or something / At least they are shooting for something / America the greedy goat / causing men to gloat / its hard to swim when sin floats / and you wonder why we are drowning in our own hope / we'de rather own dope / than to heal a land with a sinking boat. (v3) There is some terror in the greedy's eyes / Us needy barely slide by / That's why they drive by / Tired of waiting on a blessing by and by / by and by bit the bullet bringing bread to the bald lady / I was loving life until I talked to the bald baby / who put the cancer on it, cant somebody take it? / A child is drinking water with the cows and the sheep / and we complain about the nightmares that we have in our sleep / Wake up world! Wake up! (v4)Bolo A.k.a. J-Rob Ms. America / You better rise and shine / Joe Negro about to spark your mind / The TV screen telling straight up lies / Thats the straight up truth / you better open your eyes / the government doing what they please / cutting up my check, taking all my cheese? / Ms. America? I'm on your case / got a scope with a red light on your face / Mr. President? You better come on in / Bin Laden got you once and he can get you again / You over there blowing up Bagdad /Fighting for no cause and making us look bad / what you gone do when they come for you? / Bad Boys got some homeboys over here too! / Just keeping it real, can't tell no lie / Get mad if you want, I ain't scared to die.
