Story behind the song
Skorchahz (Selfie With a Bear) is the 8th song in the narrative about the imaginary coin known as the Seventeen Cent Croonie. A youth movement called Skorchahz emerges wherein kids burn their palms with images of the out-of-mint Croonie. The Public wonders why. The current "we live in a sanitized theme-park world" attitude exemplified by folks taking selfies with bears seemed pertinent. The music is ska-like to create a slightly rebellious feel.
Lyrics
1
Everybody’s talking ‘bout those boys that burn their
hand;
Callin’ ‘em The Skorchahz, and no one understands.
Left hand scar in a Croonie shape,
Small-town crime, attack the State?
Fashion plate, broken jar,
Cry for help, rising star?
CHORUS:
They’re not scared
Skorchahz Skorchahz
Trending like a Selfie with a bear
Selfie with a bear
2
Trynna be so bad ass pretending that they stole
Some old man’s coins made of two per cent gold.
Nothin’ but plastic fakes
Set on fire to imitate
Owleister’s noble face,
Blasphemy, a real disgrace.
CHORUS
?
3
Self-appointed experts got the public riled up;
Two-bit swindlers marking kids to make a buck.
Same old day’s been scrubbed up clean;
New thrill ride with a Hollywood theme.
Every Skorchah’s searchin’ for
A way to say there’s something more.
