If it's hot then give God the glory. If it's not then blame me.
If it's hot then give God the glory. If it's not then blame Mitch.
I'm Joe Johnson a local United Methodist Pastor. Before I felt God calling me into the ministry I thought I was going to be a rap artist. For 8 years I did nothing with music until my wife introduced me to a group called "The Gospel Gansters" in 1998. It was an eye opening experience. I was amazed to see people using rap for the glory of God. That day I picked up paper and pen and I haven't put it down yet.
Story behind the song
Comming right up to the line between right and wrong and looking over the edge is like Dancing with the Devil. To many of us play this game not realizing that when you dance with the devil... the devil's always leading.
Lyrics
Dancing with the Devil
The invitation read “Masquerade Party”
Instructions said come dress as a famous somebody”
I put on a mask like Zorro, and headed over pronto
I saw a Marline Monroe, and a Jay Leno
I saw a Dracula and a president Obama
A girl from the back who didn’t look like what you’d take home to meet momma
She had on a red dress, and a mask that looked like trouble
I asked who are you, she said can’t you guess, I’m the devil
She gave …me such a wicked glance, I could barely stand
I said for just one dance I’d die a happy man
She said you can be my partner, if you got soul
She took my hand and I followed her out to the dance floor
She grabbed me, lead me back and forth
She danced so wild she lead me way off course
She took me by the hand and lead me round and round
With a wicked smile on she dipped me down to the ground
And Her face was not revealed
She wore a mask of red
And Her plans they were concealed
(you know) I was so tempted
She was certainly dressed to kill
The whole evening
I was dancing with the devil
And the devil was definite-ly leading
(She had a great pose, but) I could tell something wasn’t right
She danced to close and held me hand way to tight
She took me further than I planned to go away
And left it up to her; she’d keep longer than I planned to stay
I told her my feet are hurting and I need to sit down
My excuse wasn’t working; she dipped me so low that I scrapped the ground
She stepped on my toes, banged my elbows
When I danced to slow she actually drug me cross the dance floor
Now …We danced for two hour, this has got to end
This aint dancing with the stars, you aint Maria Ozman
I told her Hey, it’s been fun, as I let go of her
She said “you won’t be done until you know what freezes over”
This girl lead me back and forth
She took my hand and lead me round and round
She danced so wild she through me way off course
Next thing I knew she took me way far down
And Her face was not revealed
She wore a mask of red
Her face was concealed
I was so tempted
She was certainly dressed to kill
The whole evening
I was dancing with the devil
And the devil was definitely leading
(As we danced) Her masked started slipping
I saw her face at last, Lord what mess am I in
I told her I had to quit she wouldn’t listen
I was so weak I have to admit, and I almost gave in
As I held her back I cried Lord save me from my sin
On my shoulder I felt a tap a voice asked may I cut in
A man with pierced palms raised stood before us
Was this another masquerade or could it really be Jesus
She yelled in rage, to late he’s sold his soul
Jesus said t I’ll pay the wage, take me but let him go
When I was almost lost and could take no more
Jesus paid the cost and took my place out on the dance floor
She grabbed him, lead him back and forth
Shouted out loud, I’m the price of this earth
She bound him by the hand and lead him round and round
She nailed him to the cross then threw his body to the ground
It was clearly God’s love reveled
Jesus took my place
I was me that deserved to be killed
But the earth shook with his grace
As the stone rolled down the hill
Death was defeated
From the tomb Jesus appeared
said Get behind me Satan, now I’m leading
(Here a discovery made) from this ordeal (I learned)
Jesus love isn’t a masquerade it’s for real
Stay away from evil and here’s the reason
When you dance with the devil …. the devils always leading.
