It's about feeling sad and confused by what someone has become. Done as a songwriting exercise, Y14W4. Instructions were to use "Nobody's Waiting" as the first line. I didn't quite follow instructions.

Story behind the song
I started writing about a relative who has chosen a criminal career. Then thought about how I'd feel if that person instead was a terrorist. Actually had the song written before the most recent attack in San Bernardino, but didn't have it recorded.
Lyrics
verse:
Last month I saw you on the news.
Your face was turned away.
There were comments about your radical views,
But you had nothing to say.
chorus 1:
Nobody's waiting
For you to come home.
It's been devastating
To see you throw stones.
verse:
You once wanted to be a lawyer.
Now you live by religious laws.
I masked man said you were warriors
Fighting for your cause.
chorus 1
verse:
You've always had a dark soul
Even when you were ten.
You used to torture animals.
When did you graduate to men?
chorus 2:
Now nobody's waiting
For you to come home.
Until you stop the hating
You're on your own.
