just a lil' ole song writer
Just a lil' ole songwriter trying to get his . Everything you hear on this page was written, performed and produced by me. All of these songs were recorded in the early-to-mid 90's on some old, broken-down equipment. There are two exceptions. The song 'In America' was performed by my old band Galen Paris and the Critical Mass as a demo. And the song 'Taste of You' was recorded live with the same band.
Story behind the song
I wrote and recorded the music to this song in less than an hour.
The lyrics came just a quickly. I obviously wrote it after an
ex-gf ticked me off. I funnelled my anger into creating this song. I originally
called it 'Donna Box'. But I realized that it could be better if I took
her name off of the title. Now it's a song any jilted guy can
use instead of just those who were dumped by a girl named Donna.
Lyrics
2 years in one love affair
She left him hang in the air
A lifetime they did have planned
That's when the buddy stepped in
A fight that never broke out
Turned this life inside and out
We should have spoke out our mind
Not kept the questions inside
She was the girl of my dreams
Although I often did think
"How's she from a family like that?"
I can't believe I fell for an act
'Cause when she dropped down that bomb
She actin' just like the mom
That causin' all of the pain
That brought us together in the first place
Lover Box Oh No, don't know why I left him
Lover Box No No, I'm not gonna tell him
Lover Box Oh Oh, I'm not gonna listen
Lover I'd rather be stubborn then go back where we belong
Lover Box Oh No, don't know why I left him
Lover Box No No, I'm not gonna tell him
Lover Box Oh Oh, I'm not gonna listen
Lover I'd rather be stubborn then go back where we belong
She said that I was the one
She said she couldn't get enough
She said that she'd never leave
I guess I was a fool to believe her
She left for reasons insane
She spreadin' dirt on my name
She turned our love to a game
You can't win a game that no one else is playing
Lover Box Oh No, don't know why I left him
Lover Box No No, I'm not gonna tell him
Lover Box Oh Oh, I'm not gonna listen
Lover I'd rather be stubborn then go back where we belong
Lover Box Oh No, don't know why I left him
Lover Box No No, I'm not gonna tell him
Lover Box Oh Oh, I'm not gonna listen
Lover I'd rather be stubborn then go back where we belong
Now if you're wondering just exactly what this box is
Better listen close 'cause I'm only gonna say it once
See this girl Donna, no I better change her name
When she had a problem she would hold in all the pain
Then one day she happened to come across this box
The silly merchant dealer gauranteed she'd love it lots
In it she would put her problems and seal it with a kiss
And like a genie it would grant her everything that she wished
A rock for her finger, a place to call her home
And ear for listening softly, for her naps a pillow
A rock for her to lean on, and a button for a smile
Now you know that Lover Box use to be me
Lover Box Oh No, don't know why I left him
Lover Box No No, I'm not gonna tell him
Lover Box Oh Oh, I'm not gonna listen
Lover I'd rather be stubborn then go back where we belong
Lover Box Oh No, don't know why I left him
Lover Box No No, I'm not gonna tell him
Lover Box Oh Oh, I'm not gonna listen
Lover I'd rather be stubborn then go back where we belong
A brother spreadin' 'round lies
Dropped one right 'fore my eyes
He used her name as the bait
He knew what food this fish ate
The lies got right back to her
She's mad at the believer
Who can't believe she believes
That they shoudln't be together
Lover Box Oh No, don't know why I left him
Lover Box No No, I'm not gonna tell him
Lover Box Oh Oh, I'm not gonna listen
Lover I'd rather be stubborn then go back where we belong
Lover Box Oh No, don't know why I left him
Lover Box No No, I'm not gonna tell him
Lover Box Oh Oh, I'm not gonna listen
Lover I'd rather be stubborn then go back where we belong
