The music of Lee Shapiro, which consists of a variety of styles and genres. I would appreciate if you "liked" or commented on any of the songs you enjoy.
My favorite kinds of music is the kind that surprises you. While I enjoy conventional type songs (verse, chorus, verse chorus, bridge, chorus), I prefer songs that take you on an adventure. This includes jam songs (Grateful Dead), and songs with many detours and lots of dynamics (Rickie Lee Jones, Dave Matthews). Although most of my songs tend to fall into some kind of normal verse/chorus formula, I do tend to try and mix things up a bit. Which is why most of my songs last longer than 4 or 5 minutes.

Story behind the song
Between 1989 and 1990 I wrote about a dozen "broken heart" songs after a particularly painful relationship breakup. Many of them found there way here to SoundClick, after remixing and remastering the original analog recordings. This is another one recently discovered from my 4 track cassette tapes. It took a lot of work to make it semi-presentable, because during the original recording, I was pretty drunk and my guitar was out of tune. This song is actually the original beginnings of "Possibility of Love", you can hear some of the same lyrics in both songs. But I eventually scrapped it, and revised it to create "Possibility of Love". Both songs share the same long, extended jam sessions brokenhearted ramblings. This one weighing in at 11:00 minutes
Lyrics
VERSE 1: Well, yesterday the world, took me by surprise. It don't happen too often, but I survived. What I did was stared it down But it got inside my eye Like the time you had to let me go And half of me just died. CHORUS: But I'm climbing up to the land of the living Don't kick me down. Don't confuse the past with the love you're not giving I'll be around so don't kick me down VERSE 2: Well springtime came in sideways With my head inside the wind We danced awhile and talked until Your father called you in. Am I good enough for you, yeah Am I good enough for kin I came with good credentials But no one's without sin. CHORUS: But I'm climbing up to the land of the living Don't kick me down. Don't confuse the past with the love you're not giving I'll be around so don't kick me down VERSE 3: I still don't understand all the reasons that you gave It seems to me I can't break through all that hidden pain I don't know why it's not worth the fight, not worth the save Perfection is only the closest that we came CHORUS: But I'm climbing up to the land of the living Don't kick me down. Don't confuse the past with the love you're not giving I'll be around so don't kick me down RAP: We found ourselves in an uncommitted trapeze act. I fell so hard without any net It looks so easy from down on the ground But in midair there's no time for regret CHORUS: But I'm climbing up to the land of the living Don't kick me down. Don't confuse the past with the love you're not giving I'll be around so don't kick me down CODA: You want to teach, about the unperceived reach You are the teacher of the unperceived reacher You're what I seek, You're the Unperceived Reach.
