Geezers? Maybe.
Fifty years ago four fraternity members at a small Midwest college decided simultaneously that they wanted to form a rock and roll band. This was not unusual in those days following the Beatles historic appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show. Although little more than acquaintances at that time they found that they shared a love for the new popular music that was infesting the 1960’s. Without instruments, or the ability to play them, they sang along with their favorite records and eventually built themselves into a novelty act performing at fraternity parties and school functions. Tired of disinterested or incompetent backing bands they proceeded to buy whatever instruments they could afford and teach themselves how to play. It was during this time that they all realized what they really wanted to do was write and play their own songs. That was a little unusual with the airwaves and turntables chock full of new and exciting music from the British invasion bands and the American counter attack. Revelers on the local dance floors wanted to hear familiar tunes. Now fast friends, the group worked up a set list of 50% cover tunes and 50% original songs. They enjoyed just enough success over their final two years in college to keep their meager equipment in barely working order. Graduation sent them on their separate ways and this signaled the end of most, if not all, of the college buddy bands. But this was an unusual band. They didn’t want their friendships or their dreams to be over. They continued to write new songs separately and sent them to each other on tape through the mail. Eventually they arranged reunions of two or more band mates to record their new songs and pass them amongst themselves. That finally led to an annual tradition of all four members getting together with their families to share and record their musical dreams. Through forty years, seven grown children, multiple career paths and hundreds, if not thousands, of miles separating them, the dream lives on. That is very unusual. We now have over 250 original songs in our private collections. Would we have remained good friends without the music? Would we have continued to write music if we were not good friends? Frankly, we cannot imagine one without the other. We are one of the longest tenured amateur bands. We have the longest lasting day jobs imaginable. We were a garage band when garages only had room for one car. We would love to share our music with you. There is plenty of room on our garage walls for your responses. And don’t worry. Nothing you can say will ever discourage us. A tip of the ol' Gass cap to Eileen, Linda, Piet, John, Peggy, Tom, Ellen, Bill, Matt, Arlo, Judy, Mary Ellen, Pat, Jesse, Ian, Mary, Melanie, Bob G., Dave and Joyce. Thanks for listening.

Lyrics
Forged in the fire Forged in the fire Tested, tried and true Sworn to be true friends forever Faithful in every detail A friendship no trial can sever A friendship that won't ever fail Friend, you're asking yourself how it is That Dexter and Io developed this bond, this friendship Well, it all came about in an earlier time, a greener time And the story that's told goes like this: For young Dexter there's nothing he couldn't do It was easy, no matter the task And so what is precious, worthwhile or dear? Well now, that's a question to ask And so Dexter you see was the right man to hire If the problem was tough, its morality gray It's not that he was evil you understand But he'd work for whoever would pay Now Io was heads to what Dexter was tails Nothing came easy for him He had to work hard to get anything done And so value and merit were prime Galactic in scope with money to burn Contra Nexus just had to attract Dexter on contract for noteworthy cash And Io on principle smelling a rat The scheme dealt with training prospective recruits To perform any crime without guilt Unquestioned loyalty, sure-fire response Pavlov's conditioning done to the hilt Chemically broken down synapses misfire Brainwaves transmitted just slightly askew At higher intensity easily lethal Correctly controlled, a man's ready to "do". Io was captured, a careless mistake Sedated, off to the "lab" for the "cure" That Dexter created to slip the moorings Cut a man loose from what ever came before Dexter applied the nominal dosage That always before marked his "patient's" demise Io was clear-eyed, not prone to suggestion Dexter was baffled in awe and surprise Increase transmission of aberrant brain waves Double the dosage of synapse distorter Physically harmful, his life is in danger Io exhibits no moral disorder "Kill if you must" Contra Nexus instructs him "Brought to his knees Io Jaxx is a prize" Dexter's finally encountered a man who's a challenge He will not destroy him, he won't compromise Free in the lab, they're still far from escaping Hundreds of thugs trained in hideous arts Io's in favor of hand-to-hand conflict Dexter would rather depend on his "smarts." Intercom boxes transmit the brainwaves Dexter fouls the air vents with nerve-bending gas Io's the only man clear in his purpose Dexter's a part of the unsettled mass No need to fight them, suggestions subdue them "Please hold the door" and "Here, I'll take that gun" Io invites Dexter, "Please won't you join me?" Once they're outside he perceives what was done Dexter was helpless, completely unguided He could have expected to be left inside But Io had not held a grudge for his treatment He rescued him, now the temptation was high He could have Dexter just for the asking All of his powers at Io's command A simple suggestion, maybe "Do what I tell you" Io rejected the thought out of hand The place was secluded and quiet and peaceful Dexter recovered his mental control Both of them knew they had needed each other The sum of their parts had made more than the whole
