Story behind the song
The song's about piecing things together when they knocked out of whack. Song with strings and acoustic about trying to do something right at the point where it's all going wrong. This was written for my dad after my mum died.
Lyrics
I'm going up the country, things always seem to happen when I'm gone. There's a time of inspiration but like everything it doesn't last that long. Clouds are in the northern sky, a southern wind will blow them all away. Streets become familiar but the people show no sign of yesterday. Come out of the cold. I'm there when you do and when you cry. The afternoons catch up with you these days. You try to reinvent yourself in the same old ways. When people start to doubt you and friends go on without you... What do you say? Come out of the cold. Will you come back down? You're growing old. You can't escape the past. The gravel and the glass. The sirens and the hours. The railings and the flowers. You need to find daylight in the day. It could be OK if you come back down.
